Safe Steps – Pasos Seguros is an Elder Pedestrian Safety program established by the Alliance for Aging in 2011, funded by the Florida Department of Transportation, to address the high number of elder pedestrian deaths and injuries in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.

    • Florida has the 9th highest elder (age 65+) pedestrian fatality rate in the nation
    • Miami-Dade County has the highest number of elder pedestrian crashes in the state: 25 deaths and 178 injuries in 2011
  • Monroe County has the 9th highest rural pedestrian fatality rate in the nation, and over 25% of the population is age 60+

Safe Steps-Pasos Seguros Workshops
Our workshop facilitator can come to any location in Miami-Dade or Monroe Counties to give a 1-hour presentation on safe pedestrian behaviors in English, Spanish, or Haitian Creole. Workshops have taken place at senior centers, elder housing developments, civic organizations, and community centers. Call to schedule a workshop today

Train-the-Trainer Workshops
This 4-hour training session teaches community members how to become a workshop facilitator so you can give
Safe Steps – Pasos Seguros workshops at local churches, neighborhood groups, social clubs, and other community-based locations.

Public Policy
