The Alliance for Aging and Mind & Melody are proud to announce a new grant-funded collaboration aimed at “turning up the joy” for older adults throughout Miami-Dade County. The AMIGOS Program (Aging with Meaning, Inclusion, Growth & Open Support), generously funded by the Humana Foundation, brings Mind & Melody’s signature interactive music sessions directly to community centers, adult day cares, and healthcare facilities, providing accessible enrichment for elders at no cost to participants.

As part of this partnership, Mind & Melody’s team of Music Enhancement Specialists leads sessions that move beyond passive listening. Participants are encouraged to engage creatively through instrument play, singing, and rhythmic movement. By bringing these sessions into community settings, the program combats social isolation and fosters a sense of belonging among residents who might otherwise lack access to high-quality arts programming.

For older adults living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia, music is more than just entertainment—it is a vital bridge to memory and self-expression. Music-based interventions like Mind & Melody tap into preserved musical memory to trigger autobiographical recall, reduce agitation, and support emotional regulation in individuals living with dementia. Together, these benefits create measurable emotional impact, with participants experiencing an average 85% increase in positive mood following each session.

The Alliance for Aging and Mind & Melody are committed to advocating for the optimal quality of life for elders. Through this partnership, we are ensuring that the “universal language” of music continues to resonate in every corner of our community.
