South Florida is home to one of the fastest-growing older adult populations in the country—many of whom face increasing social, economic, and health-related challenges as they age. Ensuring that older adults can remain safe, independent, and connected requires coordination, compassion, and community-wide collaboration.
In a recent episode of Gloria’s Gab Live, Max Rothman, President and CEO of the Alliance for Aging, sat down to discuss how the Alliance serves as the region’s designated Area Agency on Aging, connecting older adults and their families to essential resources across Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. From the Elder Helpline and Medicare counseling through the SHINE program to meals, transportation, and in-home care, the Alliance plays a vital role in helping seniors age with dignity and confidence. They discuss how the organization helps individuals remain safely at home, access essential services, and avoid unnecessary placement in nursing homes. The conversation highlights the importance of community-based care, advocacy, and public-private partnerships that strengthen the quality of life for seniors. As Max says, “When older adults thrive, we all do.”
