Over 200 aging services insurance and health care professionals gathered at Jungle Island for the 26th Annual Installation and Luncheon of the Alliance for Aging, Inc., celebrating community services stars and installing its new officers and board of directors. The January 21st  event found 20 exhibitors enjoying an information reception through the generosity of sponsor CAC-Florida Medical Centers. See images here.

The Alliance for Aging, Inc., provides comprehensive information and access to quality services for older adults and their families in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. The organization funds home and community-based services that help keep people at home and out of institutional care.

Ushering in a new year, Judge Maria M. Korvick installed new board chairman Dr. Robert H. Foley; vice chair Caren LesserLorraine Harris, Secretary and Maria A. Rams,  treasurer; Deborah J. Lowe, JD, LL.M was installed as an honorary Board Member; and new board members joining the board are Sheryle Manning, Pam Martin, Emilio Nunez and Rosa Romera.

Keynote speaker Dr. Dolores Perdomo, from the University of Miami’s Center on Aging told a larger-than-expected audience that challenges face the healthcare and caregiver industry as the Baby Boomers approach retirement.  In the coming years, the ratio of caregivers to patients will drop.  The good news is, she said, is that the Baby Boomers have changed the face of Aging.

Community Service Awards were presented to four outstanding individuals or groups who are doing wonderful things to help so many people. Roberto Perez, Antonio Friguls, the Cutler Ridge Women’s Club and William Burdette were all presented community service awards. 

The Alliance also recognized two of its own, Employees of the Year Amarilys Gutierrez and Leslie Thomas.
